What are people saying?
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the James McMurtry show Saturday evening. We found the Listening Room to be a wonderful, intimate setting for live music. Your entire staff (including yourself) was most pleasant and quite helpful. We look forward to our next show at Nia Moves.
- Tom Turpin

"Attending a concert at Nia Moves is like watching your favorite artist perform in your own living room!  It's an intimate experience like no other, and inexpensive too!"
- Mary Lee

"The ListeningRoom was the perfect place to have my acoustic show because of the relaxed setting and excellent sound throughout. Corinne was very hospitable as well and I truly look forward to playing there again."
- Ari Hest

"There's no bad seat at Nia Moves! It's such a unique feeling, being that close to the artists. I was so close to Ari Hest, I could feel his foot tapping. I can't imagine a more intimate musical experience." - Jessica Poteet

"I have seen maybe a dozen artists at Nia Moves over the past year and there just isn't another Houston venue that compares. The acoustics are amazing, there isn't a bad seat in the house, and the opportunity exists to meet musicians on a much more personal level. Looking forward to the 2009 season." - Jerry Schilling

"Amazing! My first time to see the world famous musicians Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra was not in an uncomfortable stadium, stuffy auditorium, or crowded nightclub but rather an open, relaxed, intimate listening studio. I look forward to my next "listening" experience."-Richard Ball

Former 'Lost Gonzo Band' member, Bob Livingston, is best known for having played for many years with some of the most colorful musicians in Texas, including Jerry Jeff Walker, Michael Martin Murphey, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. Independently, the Gonzos' self titled album for MCA, 'The Lost Gonzo Band', was named by Rolling Stone, "one of the best albums ever to come out of Austin". Livingston has also tasted success in his own right as a solo artist. His album, 'Mahatma Gandhi and Sitting Bull', was named one of the Austin American-Statesman's, 'Top Ten of 2004'. He has toured in 25 countries, played on over 60 nationally released albums and has penned hundreds of songs.

Show 2- 10pm   Doors 9:30pm
The largely acoustic "Sad Man Happy Man"- Mike's latest release on ATO Records- is a deliberate return to everything people love about Mike Doughty, he makes albums that simmer with verbal wit, and Sad Man Happy Man is no exception with its songs about everything from relationship bust-ups (Doughty was going through one while he was recording it) to his astute observations about the American economy.

An Evening with
Wendy Colonna
Saturday, March 6th
Show 9pm  Doors 8:30pm
Tickets $15.00 in advance online
Wendy Colonna may live and work in Austin these days, but one listen to her soulful vocals and her south Louisiana roots are obvious. Colonna grew up in Lake Charles and her music is a spicy stick-to-your-ribs Gulf Coast gumbo of soul and blues and funk. The first time I heard Colonna I thought of another sultry southern country soul singer, the great Rita Coolidge. But Colonna is hardly a one-trick pony, and even a cursory listen to her albums Red and Where I Belong reveals a complex vocalist reminiscent of a bevy of important female artists: the brash bluesy thing of Bonny Raitt, the pop genius of Carole King, the raw emotion and huge pipes of Joan Osborne, and the soul shout of Queen Aretha. It’s this kind of talent that brought Colonna acclaim as KGSR Radio’s new artist of 2005 and brings out A-list Austin players like Guy Forsyth and Shelley King when she records.

"Yes, Miss. Rodriguez is a fiddle player, having gravitated toward the instrument since age 5. Nevertheless, 'She Ain't Me' presents a number of additional identities that suit her well, from songwriter to guitarist, singer and mandolin player. Try to pigeonhole or label such an artist - an unclassifiable musician who, in less than 10 years, has packed more change into her career than someone twice her age - and there's only one appropriate response: It ain't over."
- Andrew Leahy - The Washington Times (12/12/08)

"Some artists are blessed by such a humbling personality that ego never becomes an interfering factor in their craft, even as an audience watches a legacy growing right before their eyes. With a gift for songwriting, a love of performing, eye-catching beauty and an Austin accent warm enough to slather on toast, multi-instrumentalist Carrie Rodriguez fills any room simply with her smile and lack of pretense."
David Higdon / Jambase.com (12/1/08) from review of 11.18 show in Atlanta, GA
